Moroccano cushion: Authentic craftsmanship with soul

There is something special about a Moroccan pillow. When I take one in my hands, I feel both the softness of the leather and the history sewn into every stitch. These cushions are still made by skilled Moroccan artisans, just as they have been for generations.

For me, a Moroccan cushion is more than a piece of furniture, it's a piece of cultural heritage. It brings warmth, authenticity and a touch of adventure into your home, while serving as a seat cushion, footstool and beautiful decoration.

Authentic materials that last

A Moroccan cushion is almost always made from goatskin, a natural material that is both soft and strong. The leather is tanned in a traditional, vegetable-based way without chemicals, so the leather retains its natural structure and has a beautiful, sustainable finish.

I especially love how the stitching is done with cotton thread in contrasting colors that highlight the fine patterns. Small variations in leather and stitching make each cushion unique, which is what creates authenticity.

Craftsmanship with tradition

Moroccan craftsmen still use ancient techniques such as cross stitching and overlock seams to join the leather pieces. The familiar star pattern in the middle is an iconic feature, while geometric ornaments along the sides emphasize the traditional style.

These details are not just decorative. They're also a way to ensure strength and durability so that the cushion can last for many years. I see it as a beautiful balance between function and aesthetics, exactly the essence that makes Moroccan pillows so timeless.

Care and maintenance

If you want to enjoy your Moroccano cushion for many years, it needs a little loving care. A soft, damp cloth is enough for daily cleaning and 2-4 times a year you should apply a little leather grease to the leather. It nourishes the material, makes it more resistant and maintains its shine.

Avoid soaking, damp rooms and direct sunlight to keep the leather beautiful and flexible. If you want to pamper your cushion a little extra, give it a night with leather grease when it feels dry. That way it will keep its authentic look even longer.

Sizes and shapes

Classic Moroccan cushions are round and cylindrical, typically 50-55 cm in diameter and 28-35 cm in height. This is the perfect size for using the cushion as both a seat and a footstool.

But there are also miniature versions that are ideal as decorative elements in the living room or bedroom, and larger models that can serve as extra seating in the lounge.

I like how the different sizes provide flexibility, you can find a Moroccan pillow for almost any corner of your home.

Colors and patterns

When selecting Moroccan cushions, I look for both classic earth tones and bolder shades. Cognac, brown and black are timeless choices that suit almost every home. But burgundy, dark green or petrol blue create a striking look when you want to add a little extra personality.

The classic star embroideries in white or gold thread are still the most popular. But there's also something special about the more simple tone-on-tone designs that fit perfectly into a Scandinavian, minimalist home.

I often find that customers choose to combine several cushions in different colors. It gives a vibrant look and each cushion still has its own story.

A Moroccan pillow for your home

For me, a Moroccan cushion is not just a practical piece of furniture. It's a meeting of culture and design, tradition and the present. It brings soul, warmth and authenticity into your home, whether you use it in the living room, bedroom or terrace.
